Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters has selected Reece Walsh ahead of James Tedesco at fullback for Australia's Rugby League World Cup opener. Walters spoke about his decision for leaving Tedesco out, with reports tying Tedesco's NRL grand final performance to the call.

The decision has raised eyebrows across the rugby league community, given Tedesco's standing as one of the game's premier fullbacks. It is a controversial choice heading into the tournament.

Jack Preston was also named in the squad, earning his debut. Preston's inclusion adds depth to the squad as Australia prepares for the World Cup campaign.
